Gemini in Workspace can now create documents, spreadsheets, and presentations, send emails, and schedule meetings from whichever app you’re in. In Google Meet, Take notes for me leads with a one-page summary, suggests next steps when a meeting ends, and can switch itself on only for larger meetings. Gemini in Google Sheets arrives on Android and iPhone, and AI Overviews in Gmail search now work in the UK.
These features require a Google AI Pro for Education licence.

Create and act across apps
Gemini can now carry out a task in another Workspace app without you switching to it. From the Gemini side panel in Gmail, Docs, or Slides, or from Ask Gemini in Chat or Drive, you can ask it to:
- Create a formatted Google Doc, a structured Sheet, or a styled Slides deck, saved to your Drive
- Research across a large folder or long email thread and write a report with its sources
- Draft an email from a document or meeting notes, or send it
- Find a time and schedule a meeting
- Add a reminder or a to-do list to Google Tasks
For example, from an email thread in Gmail, ask Gemini to “create a tracker for this trip in a new spreadsheet”. Before it sends an email or books a meeting, Gemini shows a preview card for you to check, edit, and confirm.
Less switching, more flow: new capabilities across Workspace apps
Google Meet
Quick notes
The notes from Take notes for me now open on a Quick notes tab: a single page of the meeting’s main outcomes, action items, and talking points. The same summary leads the email you receive after the meeting. The detailed notes you’re used to are still there, on the Full notes tab.

Next steps after a meeting
When a meeting with Take notes for me ends, the post-meeting screen now offers next steps under Routines for this meeting. For now there are two: drafting a follow-up email in Gmail, and adding the action items to Google Tasks. Turn one on with a single tap for that meeting, or for all your meetings that use Take notes for me. Google plans to add more next steps soon.
This update is rolling out over several weeks and may not yet be visible to all users.

Take notes only for meetings with three or more guests
A new option in your Meet settings, For all meetings I host with 3+ guests, turns on Take notes for me automatically for larger meetings and leaves one-to-one calls alone.
This update is rolling out gradually and may not yet be visible to all users.

Gemini in Sheets on mobile
Gemini in Google Sheets now works in the Android and iPhone apps. Tap the Gemini icon to ask questions about your data, get insights, and create charts, with suggested prompts such as “Summarise this table”. Editing, formatting, and formulas with Gemini still need Sheets on the web.
The iPhone app is rolling out now and should reach everyone by 30 October.

AI Overviews in Gmail search in the UK
AI Overviews in Gmail search were limited to the US when we covered them in May. They now work in the UK too, for accounts with Gmail set to English. Ask a question in the search bar and Gemini answers from across your inbox. You need both Smart features in Gmail, Chat, and Meet and Google Workspace smart features turned on.
